Capture my Woo

Mac is a brand that most people have heard of due to it being so popular at the moment. Famous for being a long-lasting brand, Mac is seen as professional and of great quality. The question many people have in mind is whether Mac is as good as its top buyers claim it is. As a person who has never used Mac before, I decided to check out their lipsticks – which all of my friends adore – and find out for myself if these lipsticks were worth the money that many people spend on them. I was both excited and nervous to get the lipsticks as for some reason I’ve always been a little scared to go into Mac for reasons that I don’t know.  When I went to the Mac stand, I was very impressed by the customer service. The staff were friendly and very willing to help me find the perfect lipsticks for me. After hearing some stories of bad customer service at Mac online, I was very much relieved to say the least.

I bought two lipsticks and one lip liner while I was there. I got a satin lipstick called Captive and a retro matte lipstick called Ruby Woo. Captive was a lipstick which I had never heard of before but Ruby Woo was one of the many red lipsticks I had researched before I visited the store. I also bought a lip liner to go with Ruby Woo called Cherry. Below I have reviewed the two lipsticks separately.

Ruby Woo

To say the least, this lipstick is beautiful and the best red lipstick I have used. Since it is a matte lipstick it leaves a very flawless finish and has easy application. The color itself is very bright red as you can see in the pictures below. I wore this out one night with my friends and even though I ate while at a restaurant, the lipstick lasted for the night. I was amazed at the end of the night when I had to wipe it off. I find that for me, this lipstick is too vibrant for daytime use but is perfect for wearing when out at night.

One of the many pros of this lipstick is that it could suit anyone and after all, there’s nothing better than a bold, red lipstick to spice up your life. While many people who have used this lipstick note that their lips are often dried out by this matte lipstick, I have yet to notice this happening to me, even though I have very dry lips. Everyone is different when it comes to lipstick though so if you have dry lips, make sure you sample this lipstick before buying it.

Although the color is described as being a cold based, blue under-toned red lipstick, I have found that the lipstick is more neutral rather than being either too cool based or too warm based which makes it one of the reasons why it could easily suit anyone which is a huge advantage with this lipstick. The blue under tone of the lipstick is something that really makes me love it. A lot of lipsticks are orange under toned which tend to make my teeth look yellow but this one makes them appear whiter, which I adore and this is one of the main reasons why I bought this lipstick in the first place.

The colour itself is a bold, vibrant red that is very eye-catching. It’s one of the prettiest reds I have ever used and this lipstick was worth the money and a great buy overall.

Captive:

The second lipstick that I bought is called captive which I love. I had never really seen myself as the type of girl who would be able to pull off purple lipstick but much to my surprise, I found that I love how it looks!  I would describe the colour of the lipstick itself as being a lovely plum colour. It wouldn’t be a “in your face” type of purple which I had been afraid it would be since I often associate purple lipstick with being  very dark. I love dark lipsticks but they can often be too much of a contrast to my pale skin.  Even though the lipstick looks very dark purple – which made me very sceptical of it – it turned out a much lighter colour in the end.

Unlike Ruby Woo, this lipstick is a satin set lipstick and is very easy to apply. It slides on lips like silk against silk. Surprisingly enough, I find that this lipstick is perfect for both night-time and day time wear which I love since I was a bit disappointed that Ruby Woo wasn’t the same. This lipstick is long wearing but it does not last as long as Ruby Woo which would be due to it not being matte. The texture is creamy and it does not dry out my lips no matter how long I wear it for. One coat of this lipstick is enough for a flawless finish to set you on your way.

Conclusion:

I would recommend that it’s a wise idea to try these lipsticks on your lips before you actually purchase them. I tried both of them on before I even thought about buying them and absolutely fell in love with the two. I’d give both of these a rating of 4/5 and I plan to buy more Mac products in the future.  The prices the two lipsticks were twenty euro each and I bought them at a shop called Brown Thomas where the Mac stand was.

Readers in America can buy Ruby Woo from Mac itself for $17. http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/13854/310/Products/Makeup/Lips/Lipstick/Lipstick#/shade/Ruby_Woo

Captive is the same price. While Ruby Woo has a lip pencil in the same shade, Captive does not. http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/13854/310/Products/Makeup/Lips/Lipstick/Lipstick#/shade/Captive

The lip pencil that I got, Cherry is $16.50                             http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/13852/340/Products/Makeup/Lips/Lip-Pencil/Lip-Pencil#/shade/Cherry
