Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask

claymask4

I’m the type of girl who has never really had much problems with pimples, which I’ve always appreciated but ever since I was about twelve, I’ve suffered from large pores and blackheads all over my T-zone. Literally, my whole nose, chin, bits of my inner cheeks and the gap between my eyebrows are covered by blackheads. I’ve had five years of trying to get rid of them but yet, no product, face mask or method has gotten rid of them. But I have found products that help conceal them or help minimize them. I have quite dry skin due to the oil in my face getting clogged so the mask I use is by the Body Shop. It is their Seaweed Ionic Clay mask and its for combination to oily skin. Many people might think I shouldn’t be using this product but it helps unclog my pores and helps minimize my blackheads so I use it. After use, I always have to use another face mask by Quick Fix Facials and I use their Mega Moisture mask for dry and thirsty skin to help my skin from not getting dried out due to the face mask. I only apply the clay mask to areas that have blackheads because I find that it can sting if I use it in areas that don’t have clogged pores.

claymask2

This product does has not been tested on animals and on the back, it says where they get their seaweed. The active ingredient in this is the bladderwrack seaweed which grows off the south west coast of Ireland. The mask is quite thick and is a grey- green colour. I love the actual smell of it for some reason, but I can’t exactly describe how it smells like. To use this mask, you apply this mask for about ten minutes at the most. Over that time, the mask should dry and make the pores look very big. it is recommended by the body shop, that at the most, use this twice a week but I’d recommend that for people with skin that isn’t too oily – as in people with clogged pores like myself and their skin is dry – to only use this once a week. It can really dry out skin if used excessively.

Pros of this face mask:

  • This can leave the skin feeling refreshed.
  • It gets rid of excess oil.
  • It helps clears blackheads.
  • Makes pimples dry out quicker.

claymask3

Cons:

  • Can dry out the skin.
  • Is not suitable for sensitive skin.

Conclusion:

Overall, I think this is a brilliant mask. Whenever I use it, it really reduces the size of my pores and helps my skin get unclogged. I would really recommend it to anyone who has oily skin or loads of blackheads.

Reboot

When I first made this blog over three years ago, I envisioned myself as the type of person who would post constantly. Naïve of me? Maybe. Now, years later, I’ve decided to try and reboot this little blog. This time, I have a goal of this blog being my creative outlet with no big goals and no big commitments. Just a nice, calm place where I can discuss interests that I have; beauty, primark hauls, travel experiences, yoga, and, cooking.

Hi, my name is Cadhla (pronounced Kylah) and welcome! On this blog, I will be sharing my travel experiences, recipes, beauty reviews, and, college guides. I’m a college undergrad studying History and Politics from Ireland.

My main goals on this site is to share information, write, and, make friends with other people on this site.

L’Oreal Clay Facemasks

Don’t get me wrong; these face masks aren’t bad but I feel that for the expensive prices of each one individually, they are quite overpriced.  A couple of months ago, I posted about how I wanted to try the three of them since I loved the Facial wash version of them. I didn’t exactly get what I wanted and I wouldn’t repurchase two out of the three. I bought the mini set of them which includes 10ml of each clay face mask. The one which I liked the most was the glow red algae mask which I did buy in the larger packaging as well after I initially tried the three.
What are claims of the mask?

Different areas of your face have different skincare needs. The L’Oréal Paris Pure Clay masks allow you to create a tailored detox regime with your own multi-masking solution.

Apply 1, 2 or 3 masks at a time to address your skin needs and multi-mask your way to more beautiful skin day after day. The creamy textures work deep into the pores, leaving the skin looking purer, cleaner, brighter – without drying it out.

– Green / Purity Mask

3 Pure Clays + Eucalyptus, known for its purifying properties.

– Red / Glow Mask

3 Pure Clays + Red Algae, known for its brightening properties.

– Black / Detox Mask

3 Pure Clays + Charcoal, which acts like a magnet to draw out impurities.

Tested Under Dermatological Control.

Key features:

Contains 3x10ml Mini Pure Clay Face Masks.

– Green / Purity Mask – Enriched with 3 Pure Clays + Eucalyptus, purifies & mattifies.

– Red / Glow Mask – Enriched with 3 Pure Clays + Charcoal, detoxifies & clarifies.

– Black / Detox Mask – Enriched with 3 Pure Clays + Red Algae, brightens & exfoliate.

What are my thoughts?

I found these masks to be okay. They didn’t exactly meet the claim of making my skin look purer at all- although how can skin look pure in the first place? I was really hoping to enjoy these masks but they just didn’t hit the spot. They are also very expensive compared to other masks on the market which can be purchased for such a cheaper price in larger quantities. I do however recommend the face wash version of these- cheaper and more efficient.

Thank you for reading! Have you tried these masks? If so, what did you think of them? If not, what are your favourite masks?

My wishlist

Hola Beauties! How are you??

It’s been quite a while since I last posted here… well I just finished my state Exams and I am officially on holidays. It’s crazy how quick my secondary school experience ended. I can’t believe that I am finally done my exams. It felt that they would never end, but they did! Now that the stress of school is over, I plan to put more posts on my blog, meaning that I may need some new products.

Since I wanted to make a fairly quick post to get my blog started up again, I decided to make a post of things that I currently have my eye on. It was my birthday a couple of weeks, so I got a good bit of money. I’m travelling to London in about three weeks so I’ll probably binge a bit when I get there. I realised after making this list, that I seem to be obsessed with Urban Decay at the moment. I can’t help it, their collection is so pretty, you know? I haven’t bought any new makeup in about six months so I definitely deserve a shopping spree – celebrating my exams ending would be a great excuse to go out shopping!

Anyways, here is my current wish list:

  • Naked Heat

The minute I saw this palette, I instantly fell in love with it. I have three naked palettes: Naked 3, Naked Smokey and Naked Basics. I love them. I have only actually ever really used Urban Decay eyeshadows but I do want to try more of their range in the future. This palette is not released at the time of writing this but I think that the colours are really pretty. It appears to be the perfect palette for the warm winter months. I will , of course, wait to purchase until it has been out a  while – I would rather read loads of reviews before throwing money down the drain.

  • Garnier Camomile face mask

Anyone who knows me will know that I adore face masks. Nothing brings me more joy than a face mask. I also love Garnier. I have tried the moisture bomb mask and loved it so imagine how excited I am to try Garnier’s new Camomile mask in the moisture bomb range. Due to the hot weather, my skin has been feeling very dry and tired so this mask looks like the perfect mask for me. The thing that I love the most about Garnier is the fact that their products are great for skin for an inexpensive price. €1.80 for this facemask. What a bargain! I have no idea when I’ll actually get to try this face mask but I am looking forward to it!

  • Naked Skin Shapeshifter

This is probably the item that I’m least likely to purchase on this list. Mainly for the reason that I’m really pale and I worry that the light shades on this contour palette will be too dark for me- it happens a lot with  things like this. This is a three-in-one complexion palette for contouring, highlighting and color-correcting. It claims to have blendable and build-able shades. I really like the look of this palette and if has great reviews on Debenhams. But for €47 I will have to try the shades out on my face before even thinking about buying it.

  • Mac Burgundy nines

In general, I think that the MAC cosmetics Nine Times palettes are gorgeous- I love the look of all of them. But there is something about the Burgundy one that really catches my eye and stands out to me. Firstly, I love the purple toned colours. I wouldn’t be a big fan of such colours but at the moment, they are really jumping out at me. I have been looking at this palette for a while now, and I definitely hope to purchase it when I’m in London. It seems to overall have great reviews with a 4/5 star rating. If I end up buying it, I’ll definitely post a review here.

  • Naked illuminated trio

Recently I have been highlight crazy and this beautiful highlighting palette by Urban Decay definitely catches my eye. It’s a limited edition trio designed to create a sophisticated, Naked shimmer. It claims to be a lightweight product with light reflecting properties. It creates an instant glow on the user’s body or face. It includes three shades: Pyrite (the gold shade), Oasis (frosted taupe), and Twilight ( iridescent pink shade) as shown in the picture above. Like many other products on this list, it has many good reviews. For €35, I really like the look of this palette and may buy if I come across it when I’m out shopping.

  • L’Oreal Pure Clay Purity mask

I already have the detox face wash and glowface wash  from this range. I love them and plan to review them sooner or later. However, recently I met up with my best friend and her skin was radiant looking. I was literally staring in awe at her skin for a good ten minutes before I finally asked her, what her skin secrets were. She laughed, and told me that it was the L’oreal purity mask. I was amazed and I knew that I need that mask. The results on her skin was out of this world. She was wearing no makeup, yet her skin looked as if it belonged to a model’s. I quickly went online and started to read reviews- her experience was not unique. The three clays and eucalyptus seem to do amazing things for the skin. I am a big fan of clay masks for my troubled T-zone. I’ll probably buy the three packet mini’s to try all three masks since I love the face wash versions.

Well beauties, that is all of my wish list for today. Other items that nearly made the cut include Too Faced “Papa don’t peach”, Urban Decay’s optical primer,  and Barry M contour cream palette.

What is on your wish list at the moment?

Thank you for reading, and until next time, C.

How to take care of sun burnt skin

Two of the best moisturisers for the sunburnt skin!
While some people may like to call themselves ‘sun gods‘ or sun goddesses‘, other people like myself, tend to either be one of the two following colours during the summer; Porcelain ghost white or lobster red. Living in Ireland, this summer had been quite cloudy, unfortunately, meaning that I have yet to tan. Until last week when the sun actually came out for once and decided to grace Ireland with heat. Crowds rushed to the beaches to try and get that golden tan that the media seems to love. I’m quite a sceptic  of the sun and I fear getting burnt, so I tend to cover myself in the highest coverage sun lotion possible and then use after-sun afterwards. This worked for me for the majority of the weather. Until one cloudy day when I managed to get burnt on my arm and my chest. Now, I had quite protective clothes on and sun lotion- even though it was not sunny out- but somehow I managed to get burnt.
Fearing the worst, once I realised I was burnt I quickly tried to ease the burning and prevent future peeling of my sore skin. I was successful. Keep on reading down below for how I managed to look after my skin.

Aveeno
The first step of healing burnt skin is to cool the skin down. This can be done quite easily but it may take a long time. For those who have time, a long soak in a bath of cold water could do for this bit. But I did not have such time. I have a busy day and I had  to do things as I cooled down my skin. So instead, I got a couple of washcloths and wet them before placing them onto my burnt skin. This action would give me instant relief, but it would only help for a while so I had to keep on putting them and taking them off. I also took some painkillers to help with the pain as it felt like my skin was on fire.

The next step was moisturising the skin. This step is very important as it locks water into the skin and helps to prevent dehydration. I would recommend either natural yoghurt or Aloe Vera gel for this step. Both are very cooling to the skin. Unfortunately, I had neither of these at home so I had to resort to other tactics. Instead, I used an Aveeno fragrance-free ‘Daily Moisturising Lotion’ before applying the Vaseline ‘Spray and Go body moisturiser’ over the Aveeno one. This moisturiser by Vaseline has Aloe Vera in it and really helped the healing process.

Spray & Go

I still had very bad pain in my arm by the end of the day and after complaining to a close of mine, she recommended that I soak two green tea bags in cold water for 5-10 seconds before dabbing them over my arm for ten minutes to cool the skin and help it. It’s an old Indian healing recipe, and I’m pretty sure it worked. I didn’t have any more pain in my arm since I tried that. Anything I did was drink plenty of water as it is very easy to become dehydrated after coming sunburnt so that was important to me too.

I hope this post was helpful for those who have gotten sunburnt, thanks for reading!

My favourite facemask of all time

So after nearly a year of no posting, I have finally decided to come back and try my best to get back into my blog. I feel the blog itself needs a bit of a revamping but I will be able to get onto doing that later on. One thing that has not changed in the last ten months or so is my obsession with beauty and skincare. I adore both of them. I often feel that my makeup clogs up my pores however when I wear a lot of it and I always loved to remedy that. My skin is very important to me, and I like to think that if I look after it when I’m young, I will set up good habits for later on in life.

It is for that reason that I bought the Soap and Glory as it is a deep pore detox mask. I had honestly never read reviews on this product before I bought it but after the first time I used it, I fell deeply in love with it. One of the coolest thing about this mask however is that it’s a self heating mask. And it also changes colour from the original green colour to a light colour. Now this mask is for people with Oily or combination skin, the latter is what I have.

facemask

So how do I use it ? Well, I simply dab a bit onto my face when it’s dry before I wet my fingers and rub it in. The water on my fingers trigger the self heat and makes the colour change from green to blue. Then, after about five minutes, I wash it off with a warm, wet washcloth. I would really recommend this product to everyone I know as not only does it unclog my pores, it also leaves my face feeling very soft as well.

Usually in Boots Ireland, the product costs €15.99 but at the moment, there is a sale on selected Soap and Glory products meaning it is only €11.99 right now. In the UK boots, it is usually £11.50.

Thank you all for reading, and until next time, xx.

Pore Cleansing Facial Exfoliator

It’s amazing how much a good exfoliator can do for our skin or how much it can ruin our skin.  I find that some can be too much for my skin so I’m always very cautious when buying new exfoliator. The first question I always ask myself is how other girls with skin like mine react to the product. I also never really know what products to get for my combination skin. Most products for combo skin often are also for oily skin which makes me worry how the dry bits of my skin will react to the product. Now, I no longer have to worry about that. Ever since I tried a sample of the Body Shop’s Pore Cleansing Facial Exfoliator – which is made of seaweed like the clay mask made by them – I’ve found that this exfoliator really helps both the dry parts of my skin and the oily parts too.  It’s ideal and easy to use.

It is supposed to cleanse pores and soften skin. On the back of the packaging, they recommend that you apply a little bit to wet skin and then wash off with warm water.  Now, to start my review, I’ll be looking at the ingredients evaluating  them. Like in a lot of products, the names of the ingredients are very long and unknown to me, so I had to research them all and see if any of them are harmful.  I found nothing too alarming but I did notice a couple of the ingredients in the product are known for irritating skin. Examples of that would be Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Acrylates Copolymer, Glycol and lots more. This product has a lot of ingredients that can really irritate your skin. This product has never irritated my skin but I would recommend that anyone with sensitive skin might want to stay away from this product just to be safe. Not to worry though, the body shop have plenty of different exfoliator’s and one that is good for sensitive skin is their Aloe Gentle Exfoliator , which is known to be great for sensitive skin.

The first things I have to say about the actual product is that I adore it so much.  It’s a brilliant scrub and it really leaves my skin lovely and smooth without it being too harsh or drying.  The smell is very refreshing and I love the seaweed smell to it.  It just smells so good. This really helps remove dead skin, excess oil and impurities. It does not dehydrate the skin but I do need to put on moisturizer after using it. It comes in a tube that you squeeze which is very hygienic and convenient for easy use. I found that once I started using this product, I’d never switch back to my old one due to the results that I got with this one.  I have no complaints about this scrub and will be buying it again when it runs out.

Foamingly Clean !!!!

I mentioned in my post on Monday, that this week, I am focusing on skin care products and I did not lie, today, here is a review of Foamingly Clean facial wash by Benefit. Words cannot describe how much I adore this product. To go along with their fantastic makeup range, their skin care range does not disappoint. I first tried out their skin range about two years ago when I bought their bag of mini skin products and I loved Foamingly clean from the first time I used it. Due to it’s effect on my skin, I decided that the full sized product would be a good investment and I was not wrong.

One of the main things that I love about this product is that it leaves my skin so clean and refreshed. It also doesn’t leave any residue at all either. I love how soft my skin is after I use this product. True to it’s name, the product feels like foam when applied to the skin. This cleanser has a lovely smell which is of cucumbers.  I find that everytime I use this product, it always leaves my skin extremely soft and it really clears my skin up. Also, a little bit goes a long way so this product should last me for a long time. The product itself is very large too.

The one bad thing that I can say about this product is it’s packaging. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very pretty and appealing to the eyes but it has no pump. No pump!!!  The bottle is quite hard to squeeze the product out too which is another bad thing about the packaging. I do like the colour and feel of it, but it isn’t the most ideal when it comes to being practical for easy use.

This product like all other Benefit products is quite pricey. It cost me twenty five euro but I have yet to regret buying it. I am quite cautious when it comes to buying different products that are a little bit more expensive than others. I would recommend this product for anyone looking for a great cleanser.

My current skincare routine

Skincare is something that I really value and like a lot of people, I tend to vary with different products. Each of the products that I’ll be mentioning below, I’ll be doing seperate reviews on each if I haven’t already reviewed them. This week, I’m basically going to be focusing a lot on skin care products that I love.

IMG_3208

Once a week, I apply the seaweed ionic face mask to help get rid of my black heads. I have a review of it on here already. I tend to find that this product can be very harsh at times on the skin so I often apply the Quick Fix mega moisture mask that is for thirsty skin. I only apply these once a week but that is enough for my skin.

IMG_3209
Now, with my daily skin care routine, I often change and switch the products with different ones as I said already but  at the moment I’m really loving the products that I’m currently using.  The first thing I do in the morning is wash my face.  The cleanser I use is made by Benefit and is the Foamingly Clean.  This cleanser is very true to it’s name; it foams up on my skin and leaves my skin feeling very clean.  This cleanser is one of the best I’ve used and I’ll be going into it in more depth when I post its review.  Once I’ve washed my face, it’s then time for me to tone. The toner I use is the Garnier Refreshing Toner which I also already have a review posted on. Then I moisturize with the Soap and Glory Fab Pore micro smoothing moisture cream.   I love this product and it really  helps my skin be less dry.  At night, I do the same routine, only I also use the Pore cleansing facial exfoliator from the body shop as well.

garnier, skincare, toner

Tone your life:

There is nothing better than a good toner. For years, I have never really known until very recently what exactly a toner is. I know that might sound crazy but I’ve never been a toner type of girl so I’ve never felt the need to find out. Google’s definition of a toner is a product that is an astringent liquid applied to the skin to reduce oiliness and improve its condition.  Toners are used for many different reasons. Some girls use it to soften their skin, while others use them to reduce the size of pores.

The Toner that I am reviewing today is the Refreshing Toner by Garnier. The product is supposed to tone and brighten skin. This product is enriched with lotus flower and Moringa extracts. The first thing that I have to say about this product, is that I love how it smells. It had a very refreshing smell and I find it actually slightly smells like Lotus flowers.  The scent is not strong though which is also good.

I love this Toner and it does exactly what is claims to do. It always leaves my skin fresh and bright. I use when I wake up in the morning and before I go to the bed.  This product is great for people with drier skin. I would usually find oil based toners better but this toner is water based and works brilliantly. I would rate this product a ten out of ten. It cost me under a five to buy it so you definitely get a product that is great value.
