Capture my Woo

Mac is a brand that most people have heard of due to it being so popular at the moment. Famous for being a long-lasting brand, Mac is seen as professional and of great quality. The question many people have in mind is whether Mac is as good as its top buyers claim it is. As a person who has never used Mac before, I decided to check out their lipsticks – which all of my friends adore – and find out for myself if these lipsticks were worth the money that many people spend on them. I was both excited and nervous to get the lipsticks as for some reason I’ve always been a little scared to go into Mac for reasons that I don’t know.  When I went to the Mac stand, I was very impressed by the customer service. The staff were friendly and very willing to help me find the perfect lipsticks for me. After hearing some stories of bad customer service at Mac online, I was very much relieved to say the least.

I bought two lipsticks and one lip liner while I was there. I got a satin lipstick called Captive and a retro matte lipstick called Ruby Woo. Captive was a lipstick which I had never heard of before but Ruby Woo was one of the many red lipsticks I had researched before I visited the store. I also bought a lip liner to go with Ruby Woo called Cherry. Below I have reviewed the two lipsticks separately.

Ruby Woo

To say the least, this lipstick is beautiful and the best red lipstick I have used. Since it is a matte lipstick it leaves a very flawless finish and has easy application. The color itself is very bright red as you can see in the pictures below. I wore this out one night with my friends and even though I ate while at a restaurant, the lipstick lasted for the night. I was amazed at the end of the night when I had to wipe it off. I find that for me, this lipstick is too vibrant for daytime use but is perfect for wearing when out at night.

One of the many pros of this lipstick is that it could suit anyone and after all, there’s nothing better than a bold, red lipstick to spice up your life. While many people who have used this lipstick note that their lips are often dried out by this matte lipstick, I have yet to notice this happening to me, even though I have very dry lips. Everyone is different when it comes to lipstick though so if you have dry lips, make sure you sample this lipstick before buying it.

Although the color is described as being a cold based, blue under-toned red lipstick, I have found that the lipstick is more neutral rather than being either too cool based or too warm based which makes it one of the reasons why it could easily suit anyone which is a huge advantage with this lipstick. The blue under tone of the lipstick is something that really makes me love it. A lot of lipsticks are orange under toned which tend to make my teeth look yellow but this one makes them appear whiter, which I adore and this is one of the main reasons why I bought this lipstick in the first place.

The colour itself is a bold, vibrant red that is very eye-catching. It’s one of the prettiest reds I have ever used and this lipstick was worth the money and a great buy overall.

Captive:

The second lipstick that I bought is called captive which I love. I had never really seen myself as the type of girl who would be able to pull off purple lipstick but much to my surprise, I found that I love how it looks!  I would describe the colour of the lipstick itself as being a lovely plum colour. It wouldn’t be a “in your face” type of purple which I had been afraid it would be since I often associate purple lipstick with being  very dark. I love dark lipsticks but they can often be too much of a contrast to my pale skin.  Even though the lipstick looks very dark purple – which made me very sceptical of it – it turned out a much lighter colour in the end.

Unlike Ruby Woo, this lipstick is a satin set lipstick and is very easy to apply. It slides on lips like silk against silk. Surprisingly enough, I find that this lipstick is perfect for both night-time and day time wear which I love since I was a bit disappointed that Ruby Woo wasn’t the same. This lipstick is long wearing but it does not last as long as Ruby Woo which would be due to it not being matte. The texture is creamy and it does not dry out my lips no matter how long I wear it for. One coat of this lipstick is enough for a flawless finish to set you on your way.

Conclusion:

I would recommend that it’s a wise idea to try these lipsticks on your lips before you actually purchase them. I tried both of them on before I even thought about buying them and absolutely fell in love with the two. I’d give both of these a rating of 4/5 and I plan to buy more Mac products in the future.  The prices the two lipsticks were twenty euro each and I bought them at a shop called Brown Thomas where the Mac stand was.

Readers in America can buy Ruby Woo from Mac itself for $17. http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/13854/310/Products/Makeup/Lips/Lipstick/Lipstick#/shade/Ruby_Woo

Captive is the same price. While Ruby Woo has a lip pencil in the same shade, Captive does not. http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/13854/310/Products/Makeup/Lips/Lipstick/Lipstick#/shade/Captive

The lip pencil that I got, Cherry is $16.50                             http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/13852/340/Products/Makeup/Lips/Lip-Pencil/Lip-Pencil#/shade/Cherry

Primark Haul August 2018: Misses

As you may have seen by my last Primark post, I had a lot of luck this month. However I also had some bad luck when it came to shopping in Primark. Some of these items I’m not sure about whether or not I’m returning them (all of them were both recently so I can still return them at a later point.) HU

The first disappointing item which I picked up last month was this dark red shirt. Now it only cost €9 and I absolutely fell in love with it in store. I’m a big fan of shirts in general as I think they look lovely both casually with a pair of jeans or formally with a fancy skirt. This shirt also gave me Amy Santiago vibes from Brooklyn Nine Nine! However when I looked at this shirt again when I got home, I noticed that the shirt fits weirdly at the chest area. The material stretches in a way that look odd. I need to retry it on to see if it fits better.

I am a big fan of the design of this blouse. It’s very pretty and very different compared to the other items that I bought in Primark. It also fits amazing and reminds me of the yellow blouse that young Donna in Mamma Mia 2 wears (it seems all shops in Dublin have Donna inspired clothes right now and I am living for all the stripes.). Everything is perfect about this top. Everything that is except the sleeves. The sleeves may look unique and nice, however they are the most uncomfortable sleeves ever to exist. They’re made of scratchy material which irritated me straight away when I put this blouse on for the first time. This blouse was also €13 and I will definitely be returning it as I cannot wear it with those sleeves.

(Also for some reason the pictures look like they’re two different coloured blouses despite being taken at the same time with the same lighting. The picture of the sleeves is the more accurate colouring of this blouse.)

This top I will be keeping as the problem I have with it I’m able to ignore. I bought this top to wear with the dungaree dress which I showed in my last Primark post (which you can read here.). And while it looks really good under the dungaree, I could never wear this top without it. Why? Oh, because it is completely see through along the front of the top. Yeah, I do not want to wear a see through top. However it is perfect for my needs, as the dungaree dress completely hides the parts of this top that is see-through. It was only €6 so I’m not annoyed by this problem.

Did anyone buy some products from Primark that they didn’t like? Let me know in the comments!!

Primark Haul August 2018: Hits

I adore Primark. It’s my favourite shop to walk through when I’m casually window shopping. I also love how cheap the products are – I’m a student so I can’t afford more expensive labels. I’ve decided to write a post on what I bought and liked in Primark (penneys) in August.

This month, I’ve had a desire for autumn weather so a lot of my shopping has been autumn/winter wear orientated. I no longer want to buy colourful dresses or jumpsuits anymore. I’m loving the leopard print and checked designs which are everywhere are on the high street, however I didn’t actually pick anything up with those designs. My favourite colours for this season are definitely mustard yellow (which I’ve always loved anyways) and purple. I went quite crazy this month in Primark as I’ve finally left my summer job and for the first time since May, I’ve gained a lot of free time.

In my local Primark/Penneys I bought the following items at the beginning of the month.

For some reason this jumper would not picture well

I really love this red striped jumper. It is very tight fitted in a flattering way. Red is also one of my favourite colours ever so I couldn’t stop myself from buying this knit jumper. It cost €12

This Boyfriend style t-shirt only €4 and is of amazing quality. I actually really regret not buying a few of this top as the fit is lovely and relaxed. As anyone could tell, I have a deep love for stripped clothing.

Nutgrove Rathfarnum Penneys:

I got this mustard yellow faux leather skirt for €10!!! I adore fake leather skirts. I already have one in Black and I find the fit of them to be really nice. I can’t wait to wear this little skirt to college with tights when the weather gets a bit colder.

I have a deep commit to soft jumpers. This grey one caught my eye as it too was only €10. It so soft and fluffy that I’m very tempted to buy some more of them. I felt the grey was a nice colour to match the brightness of the yellow skirt. The scarf I really didn’t need -as I have quite the collection of scarves already- however I loved the dark grey colour of it and couldn’t resist. It’s a big scarf and only cost €6!

Mary Street Dublin 1 Penneys:

In the last week I met up with a friend for a coffee and we decided to walk around the shops afterwards. As usual, I saw items of clothing and couldn’t resist. I especially was drawn to corduroy which seems to be everywhere at the moment. I picked up some really nice items in this Primark and I am delighted with the gems I bought.

I found it very hard to pick a colour when buying this buttoned corduroy skirt and in the end I went for this pretty Amber colour. Like the faux leather skirt, this only cost €10 and I’m really tempted to buy another one as the material is great for the price. I picked the amber colour in the end because I don’t have any other clothes in a similar shade so I wanted to buy something new to brighten up my wardrobe.

I am a huge fan of the dungaree dresses which have become popular on the high street at the moment. I almost can’t get enough of them. I especially love it when they only cost me €13 like this one from Penneys did. Cheap and cheerful, I will get great wear of it (it also came in pink if I remember correctly.) Like the skirt, this is also corduroy style. I got this black buttoned t-shirt to go under the dungaree which cost €6!

Dundrum Penneys:

For the back to school shopping, I went to Dundrum with my little sisters as they start school this week. I went for the chance to pick up some more cute clothes. I didn’t have as much success in this Primark as I did in others but I did pick up a cute jacket.

I am obsessed with the corduroy jackets which are everywhere at the moment. I love the fake fur that they have on the inside – so nice and warm for the colder months, yet so casual and light for daytime wear. I struggled when it came to picking a colour as this jackets comes in so many different colours- white, pink, and the same wine colour as the dungaree dress I bought. For anyone who doesn’t like corduroy, this jacket also comes in denim style. I picked white for my jacket as I felt it was the most versatile of all the colours. This beautiful jacket cost only €25 which makes it a great bargain.

I really love the items they have in Primark at the moment. The thing I love the most about this shop is that it allows me to keep up with the trends while not breaking the bank. Did anyone else have much luck in Primark this month?

university

Stationary Haul!!

Today I had to go into my university to pick up a couple of books from the library and to get my student leap card (I would recommend them to any student in Dublin). On my way home, I popped into Easons as I needed notebooks for this years lectures. I had decided to not buy much stationary this year as a few pens is all I need.

However when I walked into the store and saw that all the back to school pen sets were half price, that minimalist plan leaped out of the store. I went a tiny bit crazy and bought a lot of pretty pens. So I said to myself, why not write a post on it for my University series? This is my second post for this series and I’m so excited to share with all of you what I bought!!!

One of the most important thing that I bought was a five set of A5 refill pads for €5.99. I probably could have gone for the better quality paper but I feel at the end of the day, paper is paper. Why pay 8.99 for three expensive refill pads when I can get five for cheaper? I also bought a three set A5 of hardback copies as seen in the above picture. I really like using these A5 sized copies for taking notes during lectures as their small size makes them easy to transport between lectures.

Now onto the more interesting items- pretty coloured pens! Scroll on down to see what pens I bought!!

Did anyone else buy nice stationary recently? Let me know in the comments!!

Stationery Haul

Hello to all those reading, how are all of you? Do you like stationery? I hope so.  There are many things in life that give me a great old thrill and buying (cheap) stationary is definitely one of them. Although I don’t start University for another month, I decided to start preparing myself physically. By physically I refer to my habit of somehow always running out of stationery.  I got most of my current stationery from a Danish shop called Søstrene Grenes. Along with their amazing stationery, they also have lovely items that are perfect for an Instagram aesthetic! Seriously, check out their insta page!

Keep on scrolling to see everything that I got!
