Velvet Teddy review

To me, a makeup look is never complete without a touch of lipstick. Lipstick is the soul of makeup and can turn a frown upside down. Makeup has always been a great way for me to express myself and show another artistic part of me that may not be shown otherwise. When it comes to lipsticks, I have very little nude shades. All of my lipsticks are either bright in your face reds, or cool purples, or bright pinks. So when my parents asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I decided to research the best nude lipstick for my skin tone. I have a cool skin tone and I’m very pale, so I had to find the correct colour that would flatter me best.

It seemed that everywhere I looked, people were raving about one particular Mac lipstick; Velvet Teddy. I liked the name so I decided to research more into this lipstick since it seemed to be a very popular and almost cliché  lipstick amongst the beauty gurus of youtube. I found out that it was a matte lipstick with an almost velvety finish and based on the excellent reviews that it go on different websites, I decided to ask for it for my birthday.

Velvet Teddy

Upon receiving it on my birthday, I quickly fell in love with the nude lipstick and I have been told by many people that the shade really suits me. I feel great when I wear. While it is matte, it is not as dry as other matte lipsticks that I have from Mac like Ruby Woo – although Ruby Woo has a different formula and is a different intended finish so they shouldn’t be compared- and it applies very easily. It takes me mere seconds to apply it which is handy because I am often in a rush when leaving the house. The formula is very smooth and doesn’t dry out my lips which is a huge relief. It usually lasts throughout my entire day out so I tend to leave it at home rather than bring it with me when I am out and about.

I love the colour of this lipstick and I love how it’s a cute muted mauve colour with pink undertones. I am not the type of person who would usually be comfortable in a brown-based lipstick like this one, but I am very comfortable in this lipstick. I don’t use a lip pencil with this lipstick as I don’t feel the need for it. I would definitely buy this lipstick again and I would recommend it to all of my friends if they were looking for a brown/nude lipstick. Overall, it’d give it a rating of five stars out of five because it is amazing.

My makeup routine for school

Usually when it comes to school, I couldn’t be bothered to wear any makeup, but sometimes, I wake up inspired to make myself look better than I do usually do in school.

Most of the time though, I prefer to sleep for an extra half an hour. The trouble with my school – and many other schools – is that there is a strict policy regarding makeup. That means I have to wear it very subtly but still make myself look as good as possible. It can feel like a daunting task and it often puts me off even bothering to do anything with makeup in the morning.

To start my makeup routine, I cleanse, tone and moisture my face as I do everyday anyway. I like to look after my skin when I remember to, that is. The cleanser I use is the Seaweed Purifying facial cleanser by the body shop and is well worth the money. My toner which I am using at the moment is the Refreshing Toner by Garnier. My moisturizer cream is by soap and glory and is called The Fab Pore. These three products are great and I’d recommend them for anyone looking for new skin products.

Then I set my primer. The Primer that I use would the Porefessional by Benefit which helps cover large pores. As a person who has quite the large pores, this product really helps me not be insecure about how my pores look. As for the priming element of this primer, I find that it helps make my foundation last for a couple of hours longer than what it would without the primer. The Porefessional is very easy to apply and feels like silk on the skin. Some would see it as very expensive, which it is but I think that it is worth the price since you are paying for a product that works.

After having put my primer on, I then get a bit of my favourite foundation, which is Revlon Colorstay in the shade 110 ivory. I don’t use much of this and using a brush by Real Techinques, I apply the product on my t-zone and blend in it using a beauty blender. After that I apply my Stay Matte pressed powder by Rimmel which is in the shade of 002 pink blossom.  Once again, I apply this product using a real techniques brush that I got in a gift set.

Next, its time to bronze my cheeks. Using my Hoola bronzer by Benefit cosmetics, I sweep a bit of this onto both cheekbones, to give them a bit more definition. I am very careful with how much I apply, because I want it to look natural, and not look fake. Then for my blush I apply the Danedelion blush which is also made by benefit. I have an obsession with benefit products and can not refrain from purchasing their products. The cute packaging just lures me in. Now that my face is done, I start to work on my eyes.

Now my eye makeup, is very simple when it comes to school, I don’t like having to go too much trouble so to get a nice but easy look, I use the Naked Basics palette to achieve it. I will be posting a proper review of this palette later on this week so I won’t be going on too much about  the product.

For my look, I only use four out of the six colours. For the whole eyelid, I fill it in with the colour Foxy. I don’t use a primer for my eyes in this case. Then for my outer lid, I apply the W.O.S shade to highlight the outer corner in a subtle way. I then apply the lightest of the three darker shades and apply it in the crease to create shadows. After all of this, I apply the only shimmer shade, venus to the brow bone and to the inner corner of my eyes. Once I have my eye-shadow done, I apply one coat of my favourite mascara, They’re Real by Benefit (again) and off I go to school for the day. This is my perfect look for school !!
